Caveat – This is an inspired article!

It’s back on track! Arya Stark makes an impeccable entry by taking her revenge! Jon Snow is the King of the North!! Cersei plots her revenge and Danny has set foot at Dragonstone!!

Up until a a few months ago, when HBO released it’s “Game of Thrones” Season 7 trailer – a stir was created, quite literally! Being an ardent fan myself, over the last few months, I couldn’t help notice how a lot of videos featuring spoilers, ideas, and ideologies by GOT fans.

Thankfully, the fan in me also noticed an amazing blog by renowned influencer Jeff Bullas, who’s intuition had him observe some powerful social media marketing lessons that could be learnt from Game of Thrones.

Keep Tabs

“Lannister, Baratheon, Stark, Tyrell – they are all just spokes on a wheel. This one’s on top, then that one’s on top and on and on it spins crushing those on the ground! I am not going to stop the wheel – I am going to break the wheel!”

Sounds familiar? This badass quote by Khaleesi in season 5 tops everyone’s list of favorite GOT quotes!

However, looking at it logically – what she does is keep tabs on her competitors. Right?

So if your social media channel has to crush the wheel of your competitors and bring you to the top, it’s time for you to keep yourself updated on what’s going on!

Follow your competitors religiously and observe how they use their strengths and balance their weakness. Learn from it. Use their updates to your advantage smartly. It’s always important to know what you’re talking about and why. After all, Khaleesi had a plan when she formed the army of free men, didn’t she? Likewise, plan your social media marketing strategy before it turns into a faux pas.

Watch It!

When poor Jon Snow was betrayed and left to die for making an ally with the wildings – we realized what “bad timing” means!

This is, in fact, a similar case in social media too. Social media, being a dynamic platform that’s constantly on the move. Therefore, it’s important to gauge your content’s level of interest before you publish it! Ask yourself if your TA (target audience) would be interested in reading your content. A content that’s not well received with the audience is as good as being dead! After all, you don’t have a Melisandre to bring you back from the dead, do you?

Be prepared

“A bruise is a lesson and each lesson makes us better!” – Arya Stark

This witty one-liner by Arya Stark opened gates to the most oblivious track of social media management – to be prepared!

Here’s the truth: you don’t have a control over your audience. You can never be Ramsay Bolton whose surviving on dictatorship!

Sometimes, when your strategy hits the nail your audiences engage, interact, respond and react happily to your content. At other times, they don’t! Thus, it’s important to be prepared to deal with different audiences at different times. Take a feather out of Tyrion Lannister’s wit if you must to brace yourself!

Learn From Your Past Mistakes

The first five seasons of Game of Thrones literally had me irritated at Sansa’s stupidity! Today, however, I noticed that she’s one of the few characters who ended up being at the receiving end of others mistakes. She’s been abused the most, mentally and whether we like it or not, her evolution into a capable woman has been beautiful.
